Boyd signs letter of intent with WSU

By Bill Idle

Courtney (Weeden) Boyd, a senior on the Brookville girls basketball team has fulfilled a verbal promise made this past summer by officially signing a letter of intent to play basketball for the Wright State Raiders. Boyd has been highly recruited since her sophomore season at Brookville.

“It was close to home,” stated Boyd at the ceremony, which was set up by Brookville Athletic Director Mike Lindsey, “since I was adopted by the Boyd’s last spring, and the foster family was so good to me. It was a tough decision, but the deciding factor was being close to home and friends.”

Bowling Green, Toledo, Kansas, and others had contacted Boyd during the past basketball season. Boyd said it was between BG, Toledo and Wright State. She narrowed it down to Toledo and WSU and finally decided on WSU.

Boyd joins a short list of Brookville Blue Devils in any sport to play Division One athletics in college. Others who have played D-1 include Josh Sagester at Mercer College in basketball, Ryan Price in football, and Richie Moody in baseball. There may be others in which that this reporter does not remember, so apologizes if this is the case.

Boyd has scored 914 points in her career through 3 seasons at Brookville. She credits both high school coaches she has had as helping to improve her game. Boyd scored 417 points last season and could end up as the all time leading scorer in Brookville Lady Devil history.

“Coach Gross and Coach Boston have been great to play for,” continued Boyd. “They both make you work hard and emphasize team play. It has been great playing at Brookville.”

Boyd hopes to major in education and maybe go into coaching after college. Good luck to Boyd this season and in her future endeavors at WSU.
