AniMangaCon: Dayton Metro Library event for teens

DAYTON — Teen fans of anime and manga converge on Saturday, October 17, for the Dayton Metro Library’s annual AniMangaCon! The free celebration of Japanese animation (anime) and cartooning (manga) takes place 1 – 4 p.m. at the Chaminade-Julienne Student Conditioning Center on Eaker Street, between Ludlow and Perry in downtown Dayton.

“If you’re a teen fan of anime, manga or Japanese culture in general, this is the place to be,” said Steve Moser, Dayton Metro Library Teen Services Coordinator. “This is our 6th year for AniMangaCon and it just gets bigger and better every year. We’re in a new location this time which gives us great new space for activities.”

AniMangaCon features cosplay, crafts, contests and prizes. A Parent Zone lets the adults hang out in their own area and enjoy board games, Sudoku and coloring sheets during the event.

“It’s a great opportunity for like-minded kids from across the Miami Valley to get together and have fun for free,” said Moser.

Other featured activities at AniMangaCon include:

• Make your own candy sushi and bubble tea

• Taste test Japanese and Asian snacks

• A Selfie Station with fun backdrops and props

• Dance to K-Pop

• Cosplay Contest

• Art Contest (bring your artwork to the event)

• Team Costume Challenge: Create the best costumes using only basic supplies and a bag of random craft items

• Guessing games and trivia

“With the Main Library under construction, we needed a new venue for AniMangaCon,” said Moser. “The CJ Student Conditioning Center is an awesome space, perfect for teens and a great location for us to set up various activity stations. Handy, free parking is a bonus.
