DAYTON — Having trouble getting rid of that old refrigerator, air conditioner, water heater or stove? Montgomery County Environmental Services will dispose of your old appliances free of charge October 1-3 as part of the Montgomery County Appliance Amnesty program.
This free appliance disposal program is open to all Montgomery County residents, and is sponsored by the Montgomery County Solid Waste District. Montgomery County Environmental Services offers special disposal programs to prevent illegal dumping, promote recycling, and protect our soil and waterways from pollution or contamination.
Residents can bring their appliances to the Montgomery County Solid Waste Transfer Facility, where licensed technicians will remove any refrigerant, such as Freon™, free of charge. Metal components will be recycled rather than placed in a landfill. Microwaves, small countertop appliances or outdoor grills are not accepted as part of this program, but these items will be accepted for a nominal fee.
In addition, operable refrigerators and freezers dropped off on Saturday, Oct. 3 may be eligible for a rebate from DP&L.
Appliances are accepted at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer and Recycling Facility, located at 1001 Encrete Lane in Moraine, Ohio. Appliances are accepted during the following times:
• October 1 & 2, Thursday & Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• October 3, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Montgomery County Environmental Services accepts appliances throughout the year for a small fee. For additional information, call (937) 225-4999, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
