WEST ALEXANRIA — The 48th annual Kiwanis Oktoberfest will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Peace Park, 68 East Dayton St. (Route 35) in West Alexandria.
Additional parking for visitors will be available at the Dow Chemical and Paramount Plastic parking lot East of Peace Park. The lot is located just east of the Marathon station on the same side of the street.
A 5K and 10K race will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. followed by a parade at 11 a.m. Opening ceremonies immediately after the parade include crowning of the Queen and “Citizen of the Year.”
There will be an Arts & Crafts Festival with many handmade crafts with music and entertainment both days.
Homemade and German Food – pork & sauerkraut, cabbage roll casserole, homemade apple dumplings, Bar B Q Chicken, Bar B Q Pork Chops, and many other food items.
Featured attractions include apple butter making, and an Antique Car Covered Bridge Run on Sunday at noon.
Games & Contests:
Pumpkin Contest – Saturday – pumpkins in place by the Gazebo by 2 p.m. Pumpkins must be carved and/or decorated before display at the park with the name & address of participant placed on a paper under the pumpkin. Judging will start after 2 p.m. Winners will be announced between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Scarecrow Contest – Saturday
Scarecrows in place by the Gazebo by 2 p.m. Stakes to hold up the scarecrow will be furnished. Name & address of participant must be placed on a paper attached to the scarecrow. Judging will start after 2 p.m. Winners will be announced between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Kiddie Tractor Pull – Sunday
Registration by 2 p.m. at the Gazebo ($2 entry fee) with categories
3 – 4 years old
5 – 6 years old
7 – 8 years old
Tractor Pull will start at 2 p.m.
Children’s games at the back of the Festival grounds on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

‘Dixie Ryders’ – Saturday and Sunday 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
