BUTLER TWP. — Celebrate the awesome world of birds on Saturday, November 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Marie S. Aull Education Center.
Enjoy a Morning Bird Walk led by Tom Hissong, Aullwood’s Education Coordinator, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Fun bird related activities for families will be offered throughout the day.
Take a close look at birds during a bird banding demonstration from 9:30 a.m. to noon. From 10 a.m. to noon participate in ‘Build Your Own Birdhouses or Bird Feeders’ in front of the Center (fees vary from $8-$10 for members of Friends of Aullwood and $10-$12 for non-members).
Meet Aullwood’s beautiful American Kestral from 10:45 to 11 a.m. and from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m. The ‘Discover Birds – Fill The Bill’ activity will be provided from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
From 2:30 to 4 p.m., Tom Hissong will lead a Family Afternoon Bird Walk on the trails around the Center.
Through the bird related activities offered on Happy Bird Day, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts can complete requirements for badges. Cub Scouts will be able to complete most of the requirements for Wolf-Bird Arrow Point Badge and Girl Scouts will be able to complete many of the tasks for All About Birds Badge.
The Friends of Aullwood truckload birdseed sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aullwood’s Nature Store will feature a big selection of quality bird feeders, field guides and natural history books. Admission is free all day.
