DAYTON — According to AAA 46.9 million Americans plan to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday this year, representing a 0.6 percent increase over last year. With 300,000 additional holiday travelers, this marks the seventh consecutive year of growth and the highest number of travelers since 2007.
In Ohio 1.9 million plan to travel for the upcoming holiday, with 1.7 million traveling by automobile, a 1.1 percent increase over last year.
Americans are getting an early holiday gift at the pump. Today the average price of gas in Ohio is $1.80, which is .93 cents less than last year. The national average today is $2.06, down 75 cents from a year ago and the lowest Thanksgiving gas price since 2008.
Preparing Your Vehicle for Travel
AAA recommends that drivers have vehicles checked before hitting the road. Last year during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday period that began Wednesday Nov. 26, AAA’s Roadside Rescue Team came to the aid of more than 1,300 stranded Miami Valley area drivers. Top three calls:
• Dead battery: 310
• Tire problems: 186
• Locked out of vehicle: 188
AAA often sees an increase in lock-out calls when people are preparing to travel. As travelers begin packing for the trip, there is an increased risk of locking the keys in the vehicle. Drivers can get free bumper-to-bumper vehicle inspections at the AAA Tire & Auto in Huber Heights. For more information call (937) 281-3560.
