CLAYTON — Salem Church of God’s “Joy to Your World Invite Challenge” in December generated nearly $14,000, which will be divided between missions efforts in Africa and Honduras that are aimed to aid community development and provide clean water.
In December, a total of 1,282 guests visited Salem Church for various holiday and weekly programming. The initial plan was to donate $1 per guest, but that total climbed to nearly $10 per visitor as the congregation stepped forward with additional donations per guest and even matching funds for the entire campaign. Further monetary gifts pushed the total even higher.
“That kind of generosity carried the challenge to much loftier heights,” said Kyle Hayes, children’s and outreach pastor at Salem. “It is amazing what happens when God’s people remember the true meaning of Christmas and decide to place others before themselves. Once again, the church got caught being the church.”
Salem Church of God is at 6500 Southway Road in Clayton.
