CLAYTON — Participants in Salem Church of God’s ‘Desert Dash 5K’ will be taking a collective stride toward easing hunger in the Dayton area.
The event, set for Saturday, July 9, is open to all runners and walkers. A Kid Dash begins at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8:30 a.m.
“All proceeds will go toward creating better food options for families, through new gardens and food aid,” said Kyle Hayes, Salem’s outreach and children’s pastor. “The Dayton area is one of the nation’s top 10 food deserts – where fresh fruit, vegetables and healthy foods are hard for some to find. If you are concerned about hunger in our city, please join us for the ‘Desert Dash,’ as we seek to help our neighbors in need.”
Early registration (by June 22) is $20, or $15 without a T-shirt. Registration after June 22 is $25, and a T-shirt is not guaranteed. Participants can sign up online at www.alliancerunning.com or pick up a registration form at Salem Church of God. There also will be registration as well as packet pick-up at Salem (Door No. 4) from 7-8:15 a.m. on the day of the 5K.
Post-race attractions and activities will include treats from Grandma’s Kitchen, food and refreshments, and overall and age-group awards. Afterward, the Salem Car & Truck Show, which is a free event, will take place on the church grounds from noon-3 p.m.
