DAYTON — On Friday, August 6, Authorities with the Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force arrested four individuals from Mexico on drug and immigration charges.
Jose Herrera Mercado, Fernando Villegas Montoya, Susana Catro Beltran and Angelica Perez Martinez were all arrested by task force members on Friday, after a short-term narcotics investigation at a local Dayton Area hotel.
The Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force arrested the four individuals after observing criminal indicators that led them to believe they were smuggling narcotics. All four individuals were taken into custody after investigators found them in possession of a large amount of Heroin with an estimated street value of over $400,000.
Three of the four suspects, were illegally present in the United States, and are being held in the Montgomery County Jail on Drug Trafficking and Immigration charges.
“This is another example of the ongoing battle against drug cartels bringing in illegal drugs into our communities. We recognize collaboration through federal, state and local partnerships are necessary to have a significant impact on the criminal organizations in Montgomery County and the Miami Valley.” said Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer.
The Miami Valley Bulk Smuggling Task Force, which is part of the Ohio Attorney General’s Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, is made up of officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Miami Township Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Montgomery County RANGE Task Force, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration and Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
