‘I Am __’ series to begin at Salem

CLAYTON — “I Am ___ ,” a nine-week series that will integrate Sunday morning teachings with life group discussion and interaction, begins Sunday, Sept. 17, at Salem Church of God.

“Who are you? Beyond your relationships, career, accomplishments or labels, who are you really?” asked Steve Southards, lead pastor at Salem . “ ‘I Am ___ ‘ will be a churchwide spiritual growth journey designed to help us walk confidently in who God made us to be.”

Salem addresses the challenges of being a large church with a network of more than 40 life groups. Those groups often are made up of a dozen or fewer people who meet periodically for fellowship, support and spiritual discovery. Several new life groups have formed specifically to meet for nine weeks during the “I Am ___ ” series.

Among the goals of the series is helping people gain confidence in articulating their “I Am ___ ” story; being able to share with others what God has done in their life. The series curriculum will include weekly scripture memorization, focused prayer and a Bible-reading plan.

“Shedding old labels that bind, we will peel back to the core and claim nine dimensions of our identity in Christ,” Southards said. “We invite you to attend worship on Sunday, then connect with a life group and personally spend time with God.”

The series schedule:

Sept. 17 – “I Am a Child of God”

Sept. 24 – “ I Am Forgiven”

Oct. 1 – “ I Am a Forgiver”

Oct. 8 – “I Am a Disciple”

Oct. 15 – “ I Am a Discipler”

Oct. 22 – “I Am a Masterpiece”

Oct. 29 – “I Am a Worshipper”

Nov. 5 – “I Am More Than a Conqueror”

Nov. 12 – “I Am Blessed”

Salem’s Sunday worship services are at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
