CLAYTON — One thing you can say for certain about this year’s Northmont girls soccer team is that the Lady Bolts have plenty of depth.
All but four players return from last year’s team that went 5-6-5 overall and 3-2 in division play.
“We’ve added a few players from our sophomore class to this year’s roster and we are very anxious to get the season under way,” said Coach Ted Mergler. “We have eleven seniors on this year’s team and we feel like the talent is there. We’re just hoping that we can out on the field and get the job done.”
Mergler feels all 18 players on the roster are going to be key players.
“That’s the one thing that we are most excited about. We feel like we have lots of depth,” Mergler stated. “It’s not just that we have 10 good players out there out of the 11, we really feel like when we substitute we are not losing any talent at all. With this many seniors there is a lot of leadership out there and a lot of skilled players, so the reality is that we are going to be good. We are going to be strong all the way to our bench.”
Helping to anchor this year’s lineup will be First Team All-Division players Hannah Cloud and Kyleigh Denson, Second Team All-Division players Rachel Collopy and Brittany Weatherford, all seniors, and Special Mention All-Division player Mackenzie Stefanoff, a junior.
Other senior players include goalkeeper/midfielder Aubri Pritchett, midfielder/forward Toni Burton, midfielder Shelby Huelett, defender/forward Neariah Ross, goalkeeper Ashley Trottier, midfielder Alexxa Crosby, and midfielder Danielle Kunckle.
In addition to Stefanoff, juniors include midfielder Abigail Spirk, defender Jordyn Lubeach, and midfielder Alissa Hernandez.
Sophomores include returning varsity players Rozalyn Malott, a forward/defender, and forward/midfielder Emily Howard. Midfielder Maddie White rounds out the sophomore class.
Northmont opens the 2015 season at home on Wednesday, August 26 vs. West Carrollton.
