CLAYTON — With a 5-0 victory over Xenia last Thursday the Northmont girls tennis team improved to 12-3 overall. The Lady Buccaneers fell to 1-8 with the loss.
At first singles Akilah Parker defeated Aly Landis in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Second singles action saw Marissa Anderson achieve a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Savannah Puckett.
Third singles play saw Kennedy Harden score a 6-0, 6-1 win over Peyton Mclain.
At first doubles Michelle Hibbard and Morgan Grandfield were victorious 6-1, 6-0 against Jodi Collier and Taylor Stovall.
Second doubles saw the sophomore duo of Whitney White and Lauren Kelsey score a 6-1, 7-5 win against Abbey Friend and Grace McClelland.
“This was a great match to get out our frustrations from our loss to Beavercreek,” said Northmont Coach Chrissy Hall. “We have a tough week this week with matches against Centerville and Chaminade-Julienne. We showed no mercy against Xenia and didn’t let up. Our second doubles team, Whitney White and Lauren Kelsey, stuck with it and won big. They were able to hold on so they didn’t have to go to a third set tie-break. Second doubles has been a trouble spot for us but I am becoming more pleased with our effort lately.”
Coming into the Tuesday, Sept. 8 match, both Northmont and Beavercreek were tied for first place with a record of 2-0 in the GWOC Central Division. The Lady Bolts were 10-2 overall while the ‘Creek was undefeated at 10-0.
The match lived up to the hype, lasting over three hours. Although Beavercreek won 4-1, it was a very close match with two singles courts going three sets to decide the match. Northmont’s only win of the night ended up being at the No. 1 singles spot, where Akilah Parker defeating Anna Jones 6-2, 6-0.
