WEST CARROLLTON — Northmont Fast-pitch Softball opened its scrimmage schedule Friday at West Carrollton vs Western Brown followed by a second scrimmage vs Bellbrook.
The Lady Bolts will open regular season play Monday, March 28 at Fairmont followed by three more games the first week of the season before heading south to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
“We lost five girls from last year and it’s hard to replace such talent in your line up. But this program never seems to fall far behind-we reload each year and it’s no different in 2016,” said Coach Kris Mangen. “The players have worked hard in the offseason to prepare for the upcoming season. We have seven senior players returning from last year’s 23-8 team. We want to get better with each practice and each game. We want the girls to work hard, have a positive attitude and enjoy the time they have playing a game they love. The girls will be looking to gain the league title back.”
Senior players include: Taylor Hoover (St. Francis University), Lizzie Ritchie & Emily Ritchie (Mount Vernon Nazarene University) Whitney Fiedler (Ohio Christian University) Mallory Woods, Cory Mangen, and Courtney Jasinski.
“This group of seniors has known each other for a very long time and I am certain in saying they will make it memorable for each other,” Mangen said. “Also we will have junior Erin Mangen who is a returning letter winner and played centerfield for our program.”
Some new players that could have an impact this year include Ryanne Stoffel, Emma Finch, Anna Mangen, Cassy Lewis, Sydney Weaver and Marissa Bardonaro.
“I’m excited to see where our offense takes us,” Mangen commented. “We have a lot of power in our line up and these girls can crush it! Our line up may change depending on who is hot at the time. We won’t be having one player be our MVP – it will be a total team effort and different players will step up in different games I’m sure.
“We have players competing for defensive positions still and that is hard to judge in a gym with the weather,” Mangen added. “It may take a couple games for us to figure out our best line up, but this group has lots of talent. Defense will be key to winning games. We will have our struggles but these girls I’m confident will support each other and will find a way to win.”
