COLUMBUS — Broadcasters involved with high school sports throughout Ohio are invited to a gathering on Aug. 17 hosted jointly by the Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Ohio Association of Broadcasters. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. at the OHSAA offices in Columbus.
Radio, television and online broadcasters are all welcome to attend. There is no fee to attend the meeting and a complimentary lunch will be provided. Discussion items will include current topics and updates in high school broadcasting, a question and answer session with OHSAA administrators and comments from WBNS radio’s Paul Keels.
“Radio and television stations around the state provide extensive coverage of their local high school sports teams,” said Christine Merritt, OAB president. “We appreciate our long-standing relationship with OHSAA and look forward to bringing together a group of our members to share ideas and discuss the challenges and opportunities of broadcasting high school sports.”
Attendees are asked to RSVP to Tim Stried, OHSAA Director of Communications, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“At one time there was an organized sports broadcasters group that met during the OHSAA boys basketball state tournament,” Dave Gray, OHSAA Interim Commissioner, said. “During the August broadcasters meeting, we would like to explore whether there is interest in forming a group like that again to promote and strengthen high school sports broadcasting.”
A similar collaborative effort with the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association was initiated in 2011. The OPSWA has now grown to 149 members and includes annual activities including a Hall of Fame induction ceremony, writing and photography contests and a statewide update meeting at the OHSAA.
