Boys GWOC Preseason Tournament results

ARCANUM — The nineteen member schools of the Greater Western Ohio Conference competed Friday in the GWOC Preseason Tournament at Beechwood Golf Course.

Centerville won the tourney with an overall score of 293 with Springboro taking 2nd with 300 and Butler 3rd overall at 306.

Centerville had three players finish among the top eight while Butler had two on the leaders’ board. Josh Gilkinson (Springboro) led the field with a 69 followed by Holden Scribner (Troy) 70, Cooper Jones (Centerville) 72, Luke Wells (Springfield) 72, Zach Crawford (Butler) 72, Dhaivat Pandya (Centerville) 73, Austin Greaser (Butler) 73, and A.J. Cherubini (Centerville) 74.

Four other players also finished with rounds of 74 including Logan Myers (Miamisburg), Nate Uhlenbrock (Troy), Kyle Fox (Miamisburg) and Tony Giallombardo (Centerville).

In addition to Gilkinson’s 69, other players contributing to Springboro’s second place finish were Jonathan Cloyd with a 75, with Sam Donaghy and Dane Spencer each carding scores of 78.

In addition to Crawford’s 72 and Greaser’s 73 Butler’s third place finish was bolstered by an 80 by A.J. Lawrence and an 81 by Jack Herbst.

Despite a young lineup Northmont managed to place among the top ten teams. Leading the Thunderbolts was sophomore Jackson Trottier who carded a personal best total of 87 in his varsity golf debut. Junior Cole Stephens posted a total of 89 in his return to varsity competition after making three varsity appearances for the T-Bolts in 2015. Sophomore David Richards made his first varsity appearance with a round of 89. The team scoring was rounded out by varsity veteran sophomore Alec Avdakov who rallied on the back nine (43) to post a score of 92.

“The brutally hot conditions and five and a half hour pace of play made the Creekside and Woodland nines at Beechwood a difficult test of poise and composure today,” said Northmont Coach Nathan Hannahan. “I was very pleased with this start to the season. The Northmont Golf Program was well represented by a group of young men who played their hearts out all day.”
