ENGLEWOOD — Thousands of local residents gathered on both sides of Union Boulevard on Thursday evening for Northmont High School’s annual Homecoming Parade.
The parade began at West Wenger Road and proceeded north to Centennial Park for a bonfire. The Northmont Marching Band performed at the bonfire site, Northmont cheerleaders supplied the spirit as community members gathered around the football team.
Senior defensive lineman Nick Moore delivered a speech on behalf of the football team. He thanked the community for its support and sticking with the team despite the team’s difficult season thus far.
Parade participants included the varsity football team, girls soccer team, the marching band, several pee wee football teams and cheerleaders, Northmont Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students), Northmont DECA, members of the homecoming court: Freshman representatives Drake Hickman and Kyra Rottgen, Sophomore representatives Jason Zile and Rozalyn Malott, Junior representatives John Reichard and Kalei Murphy, Senior Queen candidates Naomi Baker, Emma Bernardi, Leah Bell, Jennifer Hampton, Rachel Tracy, and Senior King candidates Josh Pruitt, John Bates, Robert Spilker, Chris Barnes, and Nick Moore.
Northmont Superintendent Dr. Sarah Zatik, members of the school board, teachers and principals walked in the parade and handed out candy to kids lining the street awaiting treats.
The cities of Englewood, Union and Clayton had police, fire and rescue vehicle in the parade as well, which was led off by the colorguard from Englewood’s American Legion Post 707.
