PHILLIPSBURG — A tornado damaged a home and barn Monday at 8840 Baltimore-Phillipsburg Road just east of Arlington Road just after 2 p.m.
The home had its roof torn off and a portion of the barn roof was also ripped off by the tornado and toppled a pine tree in the backyard. Part of a roof landed in the back yard next to the toppled pine tree.
Debris from the barn and home was scattered in a line in the front yard northeast toward Baltimore-Phillipsburg Road and more debris traveled across the road and onto an adjacent property near the residence of Clay Township Trustee Steve Woolf.
Debris was scattered throughout a field on the east side of Arlington Road south of Balttimore-Phillipsburg Road and a line of trees in the same field were toppled falling in a southern direction. The homeowner, Tim Campbell, said that two trampolines that were in his yard are gone and are nowhere to be found. No one was home when the storm hit but all of the family pets survived the damage.
Englewood Police captured video footage of the tornado traveling across the rural area northwest of Englewood.
The National Weather Service said the tornado touched down at 2:19 p.m. and was measured to be an EF1 and wind gusts escalated to between 86 to 110 miles per hour. An initial tornado warning was issued at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Other surrounding properties also sustained damage. A barn on Arlington Road south of Baltimore-Phillipsburg Road had a section of its metal roof on the west side torn open and most of the roof on the eastern side was blown off. A field north of that barn was littered with debris from other area buildings damaged by the twister.
