The big first inning vs Troy got started on a fielding error. Cory Mangen launched a deep drive to center that was dropped with Mangen making it to second base. Taylor Hoover followed with an infield hit. Troy pitcher Natalie Henson picked up the ball and tried to flip it to first but her toss was late and offline allowing Mangen to score. Whitney Fiedler singled followed by a single by Mallory Woods. An overthrow to the plate allowed Hoover to score. Erin Mangen hit a ground ball to third and pinch runner Marissa Bardonaro got caught off the bag for the inning’s second out. Emily Ritchie drew a walk to load the bases and twin sister Lizzie Ritchie followed with a three-run double to put Northmont up 5-0. Anna Mangen singled to drive-in Lizzie Ritchie and Courtney Jasinski singled before the inning ended on pop fly to second by Erin Mangen.
The Lady Bolts tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the second. Fiedler reached second base on another dropped fly ball in center field with Bardonaro coming in to pinch run. Woods singled to center and Erin Mangen hit a hard smash to short that got through on en error allowing Bardonaro to score. Cory Mangen also singled but a pop fly to first and fly out to center ended the inning with the score 12-1.
The Lady Bolts only needed three out to walk away with a run-rule victory, but Troy had other plans. Hallie Snyder led off with a home run to deep left. Two outs later Moeller singled followed by back-to-back doubles by Josie Rohlfs Lauryn Rutan to cut Northmont’s lead to 12-4.
Troy got three more runs in the top of the seventh. An error by Erin Mangen in center allowed Moeller to reach second. Rutan got hit by a pitch and Savannah Nelson doubled to score Moeller and Rutan with Nelson reaching third on the throw to the plate. Natalie Henson doubled to left to score Nelson but Mallory Woods struck out Kearston Riley to make the final tally 12-7.
“Coach Maiken said that Troy beat us five out of the seven innings,” said Northmont Coach Kris Mangen. “We out scored them the first two and then they hit the snot out of the ball. They had four or five doubles, a triple and two home runs. They were pounding it. Fortunately we had a really good first two innings and they helped us with some fielding errors to give us some extra bases here and there, but they definitely hit the ball well. Troy is a talented team, so I am happy to be walking away with a win.”
Leading the Troy attack was Moeller who went 2 for 3 with a home run, three runs and one RBI. Rohlfs went 1 for 4 with two runs. Rutan went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Henson went 2 for 4 with two doubles and one RBI. Riley went 1 for 3 with a double. Goodwin went 1 for 4 with a double and Snyder went 2 for 2 with a home run one RBI and one run.
Northmont was led by Lizzie Ritchie who went 2 for 3 with three RBI while Hoover, Fiedler, Woods, and Anna Mangen each went 2 for 4.
