ENGLEWOOD — Whittling and woodcarving were once essential skills.
At age nine, Abraham Lincoln was put to work whittling the pegs for his mother’s coffin. On April 12, Charlie Sheets will display some of his work, similar to the pieces shown here, and will talk about and demonstrate the skill at the Randolph Township History Center, 114 Valleyview Dr., Englewood.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Randolph Township Historical Society’s business meeting at 7 p.m. and Mr. Sheets’s talk, which will begin at approximately 7:25 p.m., after the meeting. Refreshments will be available afterward.
The Randolph Township Historical Society meets at the History Center on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. April through October and at 1 p.m. November through March. The History Center will be open for visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 23 and then on the first and third Sundays of the month through October.
