Cloud & Mackay qualify for state

DAYTON — Seniors Ryan Cloud and JT MAckay were the only members of the Northmont High School Track & Field to qualify for the state meet.

Cloud qualified in the shot put with a toss of 52-feet, 9.25-inches at the Dayton regional meet last week. Cloud placed fourth overall. Mackay qualified in the 3200 meter run with a fourth place finish of 9:18.544. Only the top four in each event qualified for state.

Cloud placed third in the heavyweight class at the state wrestling tournament this year, so he is no stranger to being in the ‘big show.’ This is Mackay’s first appearance at the state track meet.

The Division I shot put competition begins at noon this Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus. The boys Division I 3200 meter run is scheduled to take place at 6:20 p.m.

Overall the boys track team scored 19 points to place 15th at the regional meet out of 35 teams. The girls team managed only one team point to tie for 38th overall.

Christian Champen who qualified for state last year in the pole vault and cleared 14-feet, 6-inches but did not place among the top eight. At regional Champen cleared 14-feet, 8-inches but ended up finishing fifth. Champen also finished seventh in the long jump at 21-feet, 8.75-inches while Zack Snider was 10th at 21-feet, 2.25 inches.

Overall it wasn’t a stellar day for either team. Northmont finished 15th in the girls 4×800 meter relay with a time of 10:23.74 (Aubrey Kosak, Melissa Barrett, Taylor Evans, Britney Amin). The boys 4×800 team finished 10th in 8:14.58 (JT Mackay, Shawn Richards, Jordan Stoiber, Ethan Shade).

The girls 4×200 meter relay team of Tabatha Hanna, Akilah Parker, Mattea Parker and Jayla Tarver finished 13th in 1:49.48 in the preliminaries to end their bid to move on.

Alisha Cooper finished 8th in the 400 meter dash in 63.05 seconds.

Melissa Barrett finished 10th in the 800 meter run in 2:23.17. Zack Garver placed seventh in the boys 800 meter run in 1:56.88.

Kameron Gover finished eighth in the 200 meter dash in 22.92 seconds.

Naomi Baker finished 10th in the long jump at 16-feet, 9.5-inches.
